When I first got into makeup I was so excited about every new product I added to my collection (that hasn't changed). I watched youtube tutorial after youtube tutorial. The one thing that became clear to me quickly was that having a well rounded makeup collection is a lovely thing. However, without the right tools you won't get very far. When I first started this blog, I wrote a post about brushes. Since then I have done a lot of homework about brushes on a budget. Without a doubt the number one budget brand is Real Techniques. The brand was created by sisters Sam and Nic Chapman. Makeup artists from the UK. Real Techniques makeup brushes have since grown in popularity and are now sold around the globe. The best part is, they are affordable. For $40 you can have all the brushes you will ever need.
Set #1 - Eye makeup starter set. This collection comes with everything you need to apply eye makeup. It comes with 5 brushes and a cute travel case! All for under $20 CAD. Inside you will find (from left to right):
Set #2 - The core collection. These 4 brushes allow you to create a flawless finish. A long with the travel case you will find (from left to right):
These brush sets can be found at Wal-Mart for $18.97 each. You cannot get much better than that! They are great quality brushes and together these two sets give you a fantastic brush collection that will allow you to create any makeup look you want! If you own these brushes let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading!
Alright ladies. I know sometimes it is hard to put ourselves first. But this is what I am going to ask of you. This weekend give yourself some 'me time'. Whether that be a warm bath, reading a book you have wanted to start, painting your toe nails or plucking unruly eyebrows!
Okay, now that you've done something for yourself I need you to do something for your makeup routine. The other thing I'd like you to do is take a look at your makeup brushes. Some brushes I have seen make me feel like I want to open up a brush shelter. A place for neglected brushes to be brought back to their former glory. A place where I can take them, wash them, and bring them back to health. Ladies, if your brushes have never been washed since the day of purchase. Please, please, take the time to wash them.
How often should you be washing your brushes? I'm glad you asked! Concealer brushes, and foundation brushes should be washed every day, or every other day. The best product for washing them is dish soap. A gentle dish soap breaks up the oils and breaks down the product. Brushes that are used for powders can be washed every week - two weeks. Just remember: the cleaner the brushes, the better the application. Same with you sponge users out there. You know who you are. If your sponge looks like it could grow legs and walk away, please toss it! If you use a beauty blender, wash it. Brushes and sponges are better able to do their job when they are properly taken care of.
