It's Friday! You know what that means? Yes, the weekend is upon us. Can I get a Hallelujah? Too much? Alright. Well I am pretty pumped about this weeks 'Be Fab' Beauty. Jennifer is a new momma of twins (and boy are they adorable!!) Despite how busy having two babies has kept her, Jenn always takes the time to get ready and feel good before she leaves the house. In fact, whenever I am making excuses about getting ready all I have to think about is her, and how she does it! I really have no excuse. So, I wanted to ask her about her beauty tips and tricks. She also has a massive makeup collection that I was dying to hear more about. This is what Jennifer had to say:
Name: Jennifer Touhey
Age: 39 (if I have to tell the truth and you post before next week haha)
Skin Type: Normal
Tell us a little about your skin care routine: Much to the horror of all you beauticians and make-up artists, soap, water and good old Nivea cream.
What is your go to beauty routine? My routine? Well, I start with foundation or bb cream, a little concealer and some powder to set! If I am feeling blah, I will add a little bronzer, and then some blush. Then I do my eyes, keeping it simple, and finish with some mascara and eye liner. I like to dabble a little (as far as brands go), so I use MAC for foundation, powder, bronzer and some of my eye shadows. I use Lise Watier concealer, Bobbie Brown's shimmer brick on my eyes, and Clinique for my mascara. My eye liner is either Clinique, Lancôme or Quo. Depends on my mood. Also, if I want to add some spice and shimmer, Bobbi Brown or Mac do the trick! Hey, I never pretended to be low maintenance. I do this almost every day. My lazy days ( including my beach and seadoo days) include BB cream, a little blush and mascara- water proof of course!
If I took a look in your makeup bag what would I find? A lot! I love trying new things. You will find anything and everything.. foundation, powders, bronzer, a ton of eye shadows and eye liners, mascara, lip gloss and of course for those occasions when we go out.. a little glitter! One could say I am as fanatic about make-up as I am about my hair!
If you could only have one makeup item to use everyday (deserted island style) what would it be and why? BB cream or tinted moisturizer- at least I would have even skin!
What is the best beauty product you've come across? Why do you love it? Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick. Any, and all colours. I love it because it has multiple functions, and they are just sooo pretty!
What was the worst beauty purchase you've made? Why was it awful? Electric blue mascara. I thought it would be a good idea to match my mascara to my dress. It was the 90's. Not such a great look for me!!
Do you have any beauty secrets you'd like to share? If so, please tell us: I don't have any real beauty secrets. I would just say don't forget to take care of yourself. Get ready every day. When you take the time for yourself you will feel good walking out the door each day.
When I first read Jenn's answers I sent her a text saying, 'soap? like a bar of soap?!" she replied, "Yep. Am I horrifying you?" To be perfectly honest, I wasn't horrified at all. Just shocked. She has great skin! The thing about those fortunate enough to be blessed with 'normal skin' by the skin gods, is that they can get away with using pretty much anything on their face! That being said, just because it works, doesn't necessarily mean it is the best option. A lot of people use a bar of soap on their face. However, unless it was designed to be used for the skin on your face it is likely that the ingredients are going to be too harsh for your skin. Although Jenn has already heard my speech about skin care, I really do appreciate her honesty as I am sure there are a lot of women out there who use a bar of soap as a cleanser. Just be mindful of how your skin feels afterwards. If your skin feels tight when you get out of the shower, it could be that it is removing your skin of it's natural oils and drying it out. I read this article the other day and learned a lot about skin care habits. I am guilty of not following quite a few of them myself. Check it out if you're not sure if you're washing your face right. You might learn a thing or two. I did.
I have to admit, I really loved reading Jenn's beauty secret. I couldn't agree more about the importance of taking time for yourself everyday. If you haven't done so all week, please make sure you do today. After all, it's Be Fabulous Friday.
Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful weekend!
