Be Fabulous - At Any Age

Some of my first memories with makeup are playing with the products inside my grandma's makeup cabinet. She had a three piece mirror in her bathroom, and both the left and right flaps opened up. The right side had all of my grandpa's boring 'man things' stashed behind, and my grandma's side was full of perfumes, creams, and makeup! I remember sitting on the bathroom counter trying on her blush, lipstick and my favourite of all, her cream blush stick. I loved the smells of her makeup, and I loved to experiment with it.  I would apply her cream blush stick on my lips and cheeks; I loved that it had a coral pink shimmer to it. Some things never change! The top drawer in her bathroom vanity housed all of her rollers, pins, combs and brushes. These are my first memories of my grandma's recipe for fabulous. My grandma is going to be 94 at the end of this month. I wanted to feature her today and highlight her makeup routine, and what she has done to stay fabulous:

Her skin care routine: My grandma's bathroom never had a shortage of face cloths. In the morning she would wipe her face with a warm face cloth. At night she always makes sure to apply her Pond's Cold Cream (liberally). I've helped my grandma get ready for bed more times than I can count - and I love how she makes sure to keep these things a part of her routine.

Her go to beauty routine? These days makeup is saved for special occasions. I would have to say that the thing my grandma is most conscious of is her hair. She loves a fresh perm and neatly styled curls. Her makeup routine is simple. A pink satin lipstick, a pop of pink blush (or rouge) and some grey pencil in her brows.

If you took a look in her makeup bag what would I find? Probably a comb for her curls, tweezers, a pearly pink lipstick, a warm pink blush and an eyebrow pencil. Those are defintely her staples.

What is the best beauty product she has come across? Why does she love it? Without a doubt it would have to be her Pond's Cold Cream. It is always within reach from her bed and  keeps her skin hydrated and incredibly smooth.

If she could only have one makeup item to use everyday (deserted island style) what would it be and why? If I know my grandma, it would have to be her bag of rollers. So that when she was rescued from the deserted island her hair would still look good!

My grandma is one of the most beautiful women I know. Inside and out. I love how she still takes the time for herself.  Whenever I pop in for a visit I know I can count on her being dressed in the most adorable outfits - that are colour co-ordinated of course! These days when I visit, I like to do something to pamper her.  I make sure I've packed a few nail polish colours I know she will like and I love doing her makeup for special events.  If you read this blog and it made you think of your grandma - give her a visit. If your grandma is anything like mine, and likes to have her hair curled just right and her nails painted, she will love it. It's a great excuse to spend some quality time together and you will both leave feeling fabulous.

Thanks for reading. I hope you all have a great weekend!
