I am just getting back into the swing of things after a long vacation. It was nice, but it sure feels good to be back. While I was home my sisters prom took place. I was so excited to be doing prom makeup! It felt like a 'do-over' for my attempt at prom makeup in years past. For my own prom, it doesn't even look like I am wearing makeup in photographs! Oh the things I've learned. Having a sister a decade younger than you means that she gets to learn from your mistakes (hopefully). Like the dreaded 'plop' of curls updo, sigh. Anyways. I wanted to share a few pictures so you could see for yourself how my prom makeup applications turned out!
This is a picture of my mom that I took today. I am sure that most people would argue that they have the best mom ever, and I am no exception. My mom is pretty awesome - and I know all of my sisters would agree.
Today, I wanted to say thank you to all the moms out there - whether they are here on earth or in our hearts. Thank you, you truly do deserve this day. A day to be spoiled, thought about, and thanked. Without you, our lives just wouldn't be the same.
I love you Momma.
Your first born.
If I don't like how a product feels on my skin, I almost immediately want it off my face. That is probably my own paranoia since I attribute heavy consistency of foundation with clogged pores and break outs. Plus, it also feels like my skin can't breathe. Needless to say, I haven't found a cream foundation I've liked in the past decade. That was until I discovered Dermablend Cover Creme.
I had first heard about Dermablend a few months ago when they created a marketing campaign called Camo Confessions. In fact, I posted one to my Facebook page because I found it inspiring. It showed people with severe skin conditions taking off their makeup, and the difference it made was remarkable. Dermablend is dermatologist recommended because it isn't your average foundation. It is advertised as being a solution to those battling severe acne, rosacea, vitiligo (a pigmentation disorder), as well as birth marks and scaring - and I am sure there is more. After watching the Camo Confessions I thought - where do I get my hands on this stuff?
The first day I got it in the mail I tried it. I applied it HEAVILY. Probably too heavily because I was pretty excited - I will admit. I finished my makeup and then continued to make lunches for the week, bake muffins, and went for a long walk. The first thing that shocked me was I forgot it was on my face. I didn't expect that.
I wore it everyday for the next week. Sometimes I applied it with a foundation brush if I wanted lighter coverage. Other times I would use the spatula it comes with and apply it using my fingers, then blend it in with a damp sponge. I found that this was my favourite method for long lasting coverage. I also snapped a selfie after I tried that method, and sent it to my sister and she commented on my 'perfect skin'. It was far from perfect - it was the Cover Creme doing it's job hiding my acne scars that somehow show themselves despite my best efforts.
I also used it on two bridesmaids in the last wedding I did, about a week ago. I asked one bridesmaid how her skin felt after over 7 hours of wearing it and she said it didn't feel heavy or greasy - which was why she normally stayed away from foundation. That was when I knew.
SPF 30, goes on like a cream, but dries like a powder. I was sold. It had won me over.
It retails at $39CAD, but I would imagine it would last you at least a year. If not more. If you feel self conscious about scars, birth marks, rosacea, or acne this product has your back. It gives the coverage you want without looking or feeling like a mask.
I have to admit, I approached Dermablend Cover Creme a skeptic and it changed the way I look at cream foundation. If you do get the chance to try Dermablend - or you already use it - I'd love to hear what you think.

My apologies for being away. It feels like I haven't blogged in forever! I missed it. It has been a busy couple of weeks. However, I just finished a product and couldn't wait to tell all of you about it! It isn't that common these days that I reach the end of a product that quickly. Mainly because I am always trying new things.
It also isn't common that I quote the 'Biebs', but he might have been onto something when he said never say never. I never thought I'd have found a primer I love as much as my Smashbox Primer. If.not.more. I can't believe I just said that!
However, with the worlds longest winter finally coming to an end, I have this primer to thank for giving my skin great coverage. Normally primer adds great staying power to foundation application, but Bare Minerals primer does that while hydrating your skin. Yes, it is the base that your face needs. I've now swapped back to my regular green Smashbox primer (because I ran out of this stuff), but I will be picking up more. 15 ml of this primer lasted me almost 3 months - and I used it nearly every day! It is also only $27CAD for 30ml. Well worth it if you ask me. If you have found that you are having issues with even application of your foundation, or that after a couple hours of wearing your makeup you look in the mirror only to see a scaly version of yourself looking back at you, try this primer. It might just be your new best friend.
