With spring comes not only beautiful weather, but also beautiful pastel colours, new clothing lines and of course new makeup and nail trends. Today I am going to be discussing the latter; pastel nail polish and mannequin nails. In several fashion and beauty blogs I've come across the mannequin nail trend. When I looked into it further I realized that mannequin nails are simply nails painted in a shade of nude that sort of blends in with your skin tone.
I am only going to say this once. Put the jogging pants away my friend. They don't do a thing for your booty, not to mention an elasticized waist band isn't anyone's friend. Okay, now that we've addressed the pants, I think we need to talk about your makeup routine. You're probably thinking 'what makeup routine?' Precisely! Spend some time on yourself! Just because you're studying, or swamped by the amount of papers you have to write doesn't mean you don't have time for yourself. Make.time. Showering does not count as 'pampering'. I know you're broke. You're going to have to deal with that. It isn't' going to change any time soon...so get thrifty! Turn that dorm room into a mini spa and give yourself a much needed study break. Paint those toes! We both know how much 'cave woman' toes drive us up the wall. Pluck those brows, and spend time on skin care. Stress is not doing any favours to your skin right now so you need to take care of it. At the end of the day no one is going to know the marks you got on that exam, but you will look back on pictures and think why didn't I care more about myself? You are working hard, so don't be so hard on yourself. Even if you aren't going out anywhere, get dressed. Do your hair, and put on some makeup. Trust me, it will do wonders for your self esteem.
Sending lots of love,
The wiser, older version of you.
Prom season is around the corner, which is why I thought it would be a good time to address prom trends. Thanks to the lovely folks at awkwardfamilyphotos.com we are able to re-visit the mistakes of our past, and hope that we don't make the same ones in the future.
My apologies. The review this week is coming a bit late after a very busy weekend! I have been wanting to write a review for Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which I will short form to BTS Mascara). I had been reading reviews and decided I would buy the Beauty Blogger Darlings kit from Sephora (because we all know I love a good kit). They're great for trying products. Mini versions help you decide whether or not a products larger counterpart is a worthy investment. I started using BTS Mascara about a month ago. I wanted to give it a solid chance. I knew people loved it, so why didn't I?
This is my senior kindergarten school photo - and that was my favourite.dress.ever! I am pretty sure I still have it. Looking back at this picture I can see that not much has changed. I still like to rock a head tilt in most pictures (now that I've told you about my 'best move' you will notice it is a trend in most photos I take). Also, the brow enthusiast in me finds it interesting to look back at childhood pictures, before most of our high school 'tweezer happy' days began. It's reassuring to me to know that my eyebrows naturally started quite far apart. Whenever I get the chance to thread eyebrows that have never been shaped before, I try to stay as close to their natural shape as possible. My brows start pretty far apart from one another and I always wondered if it was a classic case of over-tweezing that gave me this shape. But after looking at this picture I can plainly see that the answer is: No - baby was born that way!
Step away from the Buff Beige Covergirl compact. You are not always going to be buff beige. If you are - it's in the summer time. Once the winter strikes you turn as pale as the snow. Embrace that. Also, stop using the sponge in the compact. If it could, I bet that thing would grow legs and walk away. Plus - it isn't helping with break outs. Toss it - or wash it (on.the.regular). Now, I'm all for full coverage, we both know that. That being said, don't forget to add dimension back into your face. Ever wonder why your face looks like a glowing moon in a lot of pictures? You forgot to add a little blush and bronzer action. Don't worry girl, luckily for you,you managed to rock the Snow White look. Just don't be afraid of blush and bronzer - a little contouring never hurt anyone. Now, I am not saying you need to go all Kim Kardashian with the contouring (don't worry if you don't know who this is - not important). All I am saying is, don't go overboard with the contouring. I still think you need to look like yourself when you leave the door. Oh, and let the wet messy bun rest in peace. It's had it's day.
The older, wiser, version of you.
Let it be known. I have unruly hair. Wild, curly hair. When I wake up it often looks like the 80's called and they want their hair back.
As a result, it has been a struggle for me to maintain nice hair without it being incredibly time consuming. So, I decided I needed to figure out a solution to tame my wild mane. Recently I branched out and went to a hairdresser in Waterloo (I am sorry Kaitlynn - I still adore your haircutting) who told me that I needed to rehydrate my hair. I knew it. The winter had done some serious damage. She also told me to wash my hair less. Having fine hair I've always been susceptible to the, not so attractive, 'greasy rat' look after a day or two of not washing my hair. She said, "try to wash your hair twice a week if you can." You can imagine my reaction. However, I knew there was truth in what she was saying. So I set to work, looking for some products to help rescue my tresses.
This is my recipe for awesome hair, even on day 3:
