So as mentioned in my post on primer, I LOVE my Smashbox 15 hour wear cream eyeshadow. I found out about this little gem through a friend and decided to try it. I've been hooked ever since! I currently own two shades, riches and topaz (see picture below).
I love these eye shadows. They work great on their own, and as a base. You can blend them with other colours (both cream eye shadows and non) and they will easily last all day. The only set back is they are $23.00 a piece. It adds up fast, so I am always looking for drugstore comparisons.
I know that high end makeup products are not in everyone's budget. I understand this. So, I try to keep my eye out for new products that are comparable to the high end ones. While working at Shoppers the other night I stumbled upon a product that I feel is comparable to these cream eye shadows and lasts all day too! What are they you ask? They are Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadow.
The price ranges from $6-$10 depending where you're shopping. I bought two on sale at Shoppers on Sunday for $5.99 each! The great thing about these eye shadows (and the Smashbox as well) is a little goes a long way! I bought Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe. The Bronze colour is a shimmery deep brown and the Taupe is a matte gray. Both go on quite a bit darker than I expected - so be mindful of that.
These eye shadows are build-able. This means you can add more pigment to your eye by adding more gradually vs trying to place a lot of product on your eye at once. The reason why I suggest this, is this product dries quickly. So if you put too much on your finger it will go on cakey - not the look we are going for. The other thing I love about it, is the Tough as Taupe is a matte colour, which is great for those with mature skin (click on the pictures to find out more about the product, as well as other colours available). They really do last all day too! I always use makeup remover wipes at the end of the day and was amazed at how well they held up.
I have to admit that the Smashbox is a creamier, lighter product, that is more blendable. But, Maybelline offers a matte colour, where as the Smashbox colours all have a light shimmer to them. In the end it depends on the look you want to achieve. They are both a great products. However, if you're shopping on a budget the Maybelline is a comparable and affordable product that you can create some pretty great looks with too.
If you own either of these products and want to leave a comment below about your impression please feel free to do so. I love hearing your opinions!
