My apologies. The review this week is coming a bit late after a very busy weekend! I have been wanting to write a review for Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which I will short form to BTS Mascara). I had been reading reviews and decided I would buy the Beauty Blogger Darlings kit from Sephora (because we all know I love a good kit). They're great for trying products. Mini versions help you decide whether or not a products larger counterpart is a worthy investment. I started using BTS Mascara about a month ago. I wanted to give it a solid chance. I knew people loved it, so why didn't I?
Reason #1 - I found it to be quite flaky. I have never really run into this issue before. The formula just felt more dry than I was used to. I liked the initial look of my lashes, but as the day wore on I found there would be little bits of mascara scattered along my face.
Reason #2 - The brush was awkward for me. I didn't like how it was fluffy on both ends and tapered in the middle. Often times it would transfer the mascara onto my inner lid - most mornings actually. I would have to get a q-tip and try to fix it. That got to be a bit annoying. I just never quite got the hang of using it.
Reason #3 - It was the most smudge-y mascara I have ever used! I will be the first to admit, I love a good afternoon power nap. However, with this mascara every time I'd wake up I'd have a serious case of raccoon eyes. Taylor Momsen might be able to rock this look, but I sure can't. Needless to say, it was bad. In fact, it gave me the worst smudged eyes I've ever had. Plus, due to the flakes I felt like I wanted to rub my eyes more - enhancing the raccoon eye look.
So, unfortunately I have to say that I will not be buying this mascara again. I was glad I had only a mini version of it - and glad when it ran out. Now I am using a mascara that costs 1/4 of the price and I'm loving it! It goes to show you that when it comes to mascara you don't have to spend $30 on a tube to have great lashes! Save your money for other products that will last much longer than 3 months!
